Million Dollar Mates - Paparazzi Princes
HOPKINS, Cathy, ‘2011’ Million Dollar Mates (Paparazzi Princess),
Simon and Schuster.
This is the second book of the series ‘Million Dollar Mates’ it has the same main character, and there are a few new ones. Jess’s life in Porchester Parkis not as bad as in the other book. Here she meets new people and makes new friends that belong to a completely different world (the world of rich people and no freedom). She realises the many types of worlds that people live in, the rich, the normal, the poor, and the homeless.

She also starts to get to know Riko, a Chinese girl of her age that at the beginning tries to fake being friends with her, but at the end she shares her secret and they are good friends. The non-serious relationship that starts at the end of the last book continued, but Jess wanted to get serious, so things got complicated until the end of the book when they decided to make it official.
The theme is friendship and love and the genre is romantic novel.
The theme is friendship and love and the genre is romantic novel.
My favourite part of the book was when Jess went to Tom’s party (the boy with the relationship), because it started off very romantic and dreamy and ended up being horrible. They were hanging out at the party deciding to move to the next step, when suddenly a boy comes and pukes all over the wall next to them. Ewwwww!!! (NOT romantic).
I would recommend this book to teens, 10 to 15, because it’s really girly and it’s all about friendship, boyfriends, shopping, etc
I would rate this book 3 stars.
Rescue operation as four miners are trapped in Welsh pit
Saturday 17 September 2011
Investigation launched into deaths of trapped Welsh miners.
Specialist teams examine scene at Gleision colliery after four men found dead in flooded mine.
An investigation has been launched after four men died in a flooded south Wales colliery in the worst mining disaster for 30 years.
The inquiry was announced after the discovery of the bodies of the miners, who had been trapped deep underground at the Gleision colliery in the Swansea Valley.
Police and safety officials promised to establish how and why they were killed. Forensics teams at the mine in the village of Cilybebyll have begun to piece together what happened. The four – Charles Breslin, 62, David Powell, 50, Phillip Hill, 45, and Garry Jenkins, 39 – were trapped after water poured into the shaft they were working in on Thursday morning. Three others, including Powell's son, Daniel, managed to get out and raise the alarm.
The Welsh secretary, Cheryl Gillan, said: "We must ensure we learn the lessons and find out what happened to these men."
She said the investigation would initially be led by South Wales police before being handed over to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
"As the families grieve for their loved ones, we will do everything we can to support them, to identify how this terrible incident occurred and to learn lessons for the future," said Gillan.
In a joint statement, the Wales Office and the HSE said specialist mine inspectors were now at the site and working closely with the police.
"At this stage, it is too early to state possible causes," the statement added.
Details of the investigation came as an appeal fund was launched to help the families of the four men killed.

Neath MP Peter Hain set up the Swansea Valley Miners Appeal Fund and urged the public to make donations.
On the site, the Labour MP wrote: "The deaths of four miners at the Gleision colliery was the worst mining accident Wales has seen for generations.

"We can't even imagine what the families are going through. But they need our help to survive and recover in the future. Please give what you can to support the families."
The Welsh first minister, Carwyn Jones, said: "We thought in south Wales that the days of mining accidents were behind us but we were wrong."
The family of Phillip Hill laid floral tributes at the mine.
Hill's daughter Kyla left a bunch of flowers with a card, which said: "Hi dad, I love and miss you forever.
"Love you all the money in the world and America. From Kyla x."
Another card from the family said: "Thank you for being part of our lives. Our girls will be safe with me. Miss you always. Donna x Meg."

David Cameron described the tragedy as a "desperately, desperately sad situation".
The prime minister said the anguish of the miners' families was "intense" but added it was clear the emergency services had done everything they could.

Peter Vaughan, chief constable of South Wales police, said: "We've tried to bring this safely to its conclusion. Unfortunately the conclusion we have is the one none of us wanted."
Expressing his condolences to the men's families, he said: "I can't begin to imagine what the families are going through.

"We've been humbled by the community spirit that's been shown during this most tragic of incidents."
Fire and rescue and ambulance workers said they had never seen or worked in such conditions before.
Of the three men who escaped the flooded mine, one is now critically ill in hospital. The two other men who were with him emerged largely unharmed and helped the rescue operation.
Hain said: "This is the end we all feared but hoped against hope wouldn't happen.
"Extraordinary courage was shown by the families right through the night, tortuous hours of waiting. We can't imagine what they have been through.

"This has been a stab right through the heart of these local communities. There's a long tradition of mining here but nobody expected the tragedies of past generations would come today."
Richard Smith, chief fire officer for Mid and West Wales fire and rescue service, said:
"Ambulance and fire officers have all expressed to me that within 30 years of service they've never actually seen such conditions and worked in such conditions that they've had to over the last two days to try and bring this to a satisfactory conclusion."
Asked whether any of the men ever stood a chance of surviving, Smith said: "It's a bit too early to tell whether they would have stood any chance of survival or not but the fact that I think that them being together where they were working will probably be indicative of that."
The archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, said: "My heart goes out to the families of those killed in Gleision colliery. The whole community is heartbroken for them."

He climbed into the seat just before the buggy moved off. He pulled down the bar as the vehicle sped up, the music began, the lights flashed and he moved faster and faster. The rollercoaster was beginning to move backwards when suddenly it stopped.
I waited a few minutes and it still didn’t move, the people in the seats got scared and so was I. But I didn’t panic; I knew it was going to start moving shortly. And it did, the ride continued its way as normal and everyone enjoyed it.
When the ride finished, we all climbed down from the seats. I noticed a man who was sitting next to me. He was weird, in the sense that during the ride and before climbing into his seat, he had looked at every detail of the rollercoaster: the seats, the buggy, the bars, etc. and he didn’t shout or smile at all.
After the ride, I went to have a milkshake, not just any milkshake, but my favourite strawberry milkshake ‘Mm….! Delicious’ the thing was that I couldn’t get that man out of my head. He looked so suspicious. I needed to find out about him. So I went to look for him, and I found him near to the same rollercoaster.
He was looking at it and he also had a notebook in which he was writing things. It seemed that he was looking for an answer ‘but what?’ I got near him but I tripped over and I spilt the milkshake all over him. He looked at me angrily. I didn’t know what to do so I ran away.
Then I went and sat on a bench and relaxed for a little while. Moments later someone threw a milkshake all over me. It was that man! AGAIN! I guessed it was just revenge. He did the same thing that I did, he ran away, but he dropped his wallet on the way.
I picked it up and looked at his I.D. I took a business card out of his wallet, it wasn’t a normal card it was quite odd. Then I realised why he looked suspicious, he was a spy trying to figure out if the rollercoaster was in good condition.
After all of this, I was so tired that I decided to leave the wallet in reception and go home. The next day I decided to go to a better place. I went to a relaxing place where you don’t have to worry about anything, the beach.

Today I went to see what we filmed last week. I sat down in a really comfortable chair. My co-stars sat next to me. We were anxious to see it.
After waiting for a few minutes, it finally started. We saw it on a big screen. It was enormous, I would say as big as all of America! The blight was awesome, with lots of colours, and the best thing was, that I was watching myself!
I realised that filming. Wasn’t only about having fun and getting paid, but it was a big opportunity that many people would love to have. I was actually famous (but I didn’t care much about that) and I was learning so many things. Such as what the job of a film director is and what are the things and jobs needed to do a film. I’m also learning history (because the movie was about indigenous people in America, when CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS first arrived), and many more things.
I also loved the sound. You could hear what was being said, from a hundred miles away. No one took their eyes off the screen throughout the film. When it finished we were all open-mouthed. Everyone was surprised at how well it was going. My boss congratulated me; he said that I was a really good actress and that I was doing really well. My father told me that he was proud of me.
After this, we all went home anxious to continue filming next day.

I’m really worried. I’ve spent all day at home, just thinking and thinking about what would happen to the community. They’re going to take the water away from us, away from everyone here. They’re going to take away our wells, the wells that our parents built for us with their own hands.

My Dad is going crazy, I mean… We do have rights! They can’t take the things we own away from us!! Everyone is stressed and worried of what will happen in the end.
I don’t know why, how and who they are. I do know that they don’t care about us. They think we don’t have feelings, but we do, we are all human and we should all have the same rights, which is something that they don’t consider. And we all think is something that they don’t consider. And we all think it’s very selfish and mean. But what can we do?

Mum said that they needed to think about the children. They were shouting: ‘What will our children drink?’ I’m worried sick of what’s going to happen to us. I heard my parents talking this morning, saying that there’s going to be a war and the whole community is going to fight for their rights, but I know it’s going to end badly.
I hope Dad doesn’t go. He could die if he goes there. He’s the main character in the film, so the boss asked him not to go to protest. He also offered him much more money, and when I say much more money that means more than a lot.

With that much money, we would feel rich. We would live the rest of our lives safe, healthy and happy. And if he messes up, it’s going to let all of us down, because we’re counting on buying a new house, in North America. With a big garden, Mum and Dad would have good jobs and I would go a nice educational school.
I hope nothing bad happens now we’re all safe and I also hope we get to finish the film without any interruptions.

It all went badly, real badly. Everything was a disaster. At the end it did happen, everyone I knew fought for their rights, it was such a huge protest. In the morning, I woke up and Dad was gone. I told Mum that I was going to go and find him. But she didn’t let me, she said it was too dangerous and violent and something could happen to me. And it did.

I sat down on my bed and thought that my Dad needed help. I imagined that if he got hurt it would be my fault for not being able to be there for him. And if the community was fighting for its rights, then I should be helping as well because I’m part of it.
So` I decided that I was going. I waited a few minutes so my Mum thought I was safely in my room. Then I ran off quietly so no one heard me. When I got there, everyone was fighting. There was such a violent atmosphere. People punching, kicking and throwing things at each other.
It was horrible, I was pushed, punched; I tripped on the ground a few times. And the worst thing was, finding me on the ground. I couldn’t move my leg, it was bleeding a lot and it hurt so much, it was terrible.
My Mum’s friend saw me and took me back to her home. She lived in that area, so for the moment I was safe, but I was losing a lot of blood. Moments later, my boss was carrying me in his arms. I didn’t understand what was happening a, I saw lights and I heard people shouting and crying. I felt hurt, dizzy and sleepy.
Next day I was in the hospital, I had my leg bent and it didn’t hurt any more. My parents were beside me. My Mum was crying and my Dad was happy to see me, but his face was covered with bruises. We were at peace and me and my family were happy and together. Of course we weren’t going to continue with the film, because filming was cancelled due to all of the violent protest and the crew went back to Spain. But it didn’t matter, because now we are all safe.

OLIVA Y ELENA.
